ABOUT

I'm a chartered civil engineer based in London and really enjoy the process of design, construction and bringing innovation. Day to day I work on the structural engineering of buildings on a variety of scales, both new build and refurbishment, be it a house extension or a new 14-storey reinforced concrete hotel.

I love surfing and have long wanted to make my own surfboard, applying structural engineering principles to the design.

Making a surfboard from timber made sense  as it is readily available, sustainable and easy to work.

Having designed buildings using cross laminated timber and seen the benefits, I was interested to see if plywood (a much smaller scale version of cross laminated timber) could be used for a surfboard.

I gained my wood working skills from my Dad whose tools and workshop I borrowed to make the board. I'm very grateful for his patience to teach me by making some small furniture projects together when I was much younger.

If you are thinking about making a surfboard this website will hopefully provide some inspiration, or if you have already decided to start, perhaps it will provided some answers to questions you may have.
